I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you (Psalm 32:8).
Heavenly Father, God of the ages, all wisdom and power are Yours. We stand in awe of You, the great, Almighty God, who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, [and] with the breadth of His hand marked off the heavens...who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, [and] weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance (Isaiah 40:12).
In the "vast array" of the heavens and the earth You have created ( Genesis 2:1); in the infinite expanse of time from "all eternity" (Psalm 93:2), we are mere specks of dust (Psalm 103:14); we are a temporary vanishing mist (James 4:14).
Without You, Lord, we would be completely lost in the overwhelming immenseness of time and space, substance and matter, material and immaterial. And so much more we cannot even begin to grasp—elements and dimensions beyond the scope of our reasoning, understanding and ability.
The wise Teacher reminds us, "...then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all their efforts to search it out, no one can discover its meaning. Even if the wise claim they know, they cannot really comprehend it" (Ecclesiastes 8:17).
As we seek to sift through it all, we wonder like the apostle Thomas, "How can we know the way" (John 14:5)? But through the centuries, we still have the response of our Lord Jesus, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). We still have Your promise from of old, I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you (Psalm 32:8).
So we pray in thankful amazement like the psalmist, "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is mankind that You are mindful of them, human beings that You care for them" (Psalm 8:3-4)?
Thank You for Your instruction, Your counsel, and Your watchful, loving eye. Thank You that it makes all the difference as we take each step forward into a future we cannot control. We gratefully embrace Your guidance and Your help. We surrender every day, every hour, every moment to Your loving, watchful care, and we pray, like Moses, "teach me Your ways so I may know You and continue to find favor with You" (Exodus 33:13).
