Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident… I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living (Psalm 27:3, 13).
God of all power and authority, You are our confidence. In You alone we find our strength, our security. You are God from everlasting to everlasting (Psalm 90:2)—in Your hands alone is the culmination of the ages (1 Corinthians 10:11).
Without You O Lord, so much in life would cause our "hearts to fail." But You have given us Your word, Your eternal promises, Your warnings, and Your guidance, so that all who fear You may believe and understand, and trust Your perfect plan and purpose.
We thank You that You are our shield in life's battles. That even when we are besieged by trouble of every kind, Your love is unending, Your grace is enough.
We pray for those who feel buffeted by life's turbulence. Remind them that You are our safety. Remind them that You have prepared us with knowledge, with instruction, and with assurance.
O fill us with the confidence that Your goodness and mercy are with us. Give us the inner strength David saw in answer to his prayer, "When I called, You answered me; You made me bold and stouthearted" (Psalm 138:3). Fill us with Your perfect love [that] drives out fear (1 John 4:18). Fill us with the blessed assurance of Your peace and Your presence.
