Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them... (John 21:12-13).
Lord of the heavens and the earth, Creator of land and sea, we have no words, no language to ascribe to You the glory due Your name. You are great and most worthy of praise (Psalm 96: 4, 8). And yet, God of glory, You not only stoop down to look on the heavens and the earth (Psalm 113:6), but You came from Your glory, in the person of Your Son who became flesh and made His dwelling among us (John 1:14).
Father, all through the Scriptures, You unfolded Your monumental plan of redemption for a world ravaged by sin, death, and destruction. Each page pointed to the Son of Your love—the Bread of Heaven who would come down to us.
Every account spoke of the message of Your coming grace. It was there when You led Your people through the wilderness, feeding them with the bread of angels; it was there when the Lord Jesus told His disciples, "This is my body given for you" (Luke 22:19).
And true to Your infallible word, our Lord Jesus came to earth—born of a virgin—endured the agony of death on a cross, suffered the penalty for our sin, and paid the price for our redemption. He was buried, [and] He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:4).
And after all the suffering and shame, the rejection and pain, we find Him, seeking out weak and fearful followers who had denied, deserted, and doubted Him. We find Him, drawing them into forgiveness and fellowship with a tender invitation, "Come and have breakfast" (John 21:12).
Who is like You, Lord? Your grace is amazing, Your mercy beyond description. Even after our worst mistakes, our biggest offenses, You offer us forgiveness and restoration, and an invitation into fellowship. You spread a table for us filled with the cup of salvation, and the manna of Your grace. And You assure us:
There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:1-2).
