Day 2: Easy and Light
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
O Lord, if anyone knows what weariness is, You do. You carried a cross with the weight of my sin, and the sin of the world.
And because You did, You said that I can live free of all weight— free of all burdens. If only I believe You. Do I believe You, Lord? Everything You have spoken has always been true. It cannot be otherwise, for You are Truth (John 14:6).
So when You say, "Come to Me, all You who are weary" why do I not come? Why do I choose to listen to the relentless voices that threaten to pull me under— fear, anxiety, worry, and despair— when Your tender voice whispers, "I will give you rest!"?
Jesus! You say of Yourself, "I am gentle and humble in heart." You have proven that it is so. You offer to teach me to be like You. Lord! I want to learn from You— to lay down my pride, and the burdens of my restless soul.
I kneel before You Almighty, Powerful, Gentle, Humble God. You alone are able to release me from these painful yokes, these crushing burdens. Lift from my neck, my shoulders, my back, the harnesses of tyranny— the idols, the chasings of this world that sap my strength; the habits, the behaviors that slow my steps; the runaway emotions that crush my spirits.
With thanks and praise I accept this amazing transfer. I give You my weariness. I give You my burdens. Give me Your yoke, for it is easy. Give me Your burden, for it is light. Give me rest for my soul. As only You can.
