Day 2: Songs of deliverance

You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance (Psalm 32:7).

God of power and might, You created all things—nothing exists except by Your will. You are before all things and everything in creation is subject to Your authority (Colossians 1:16-17). You sit enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers (Isaiah 40:22). Yet, amazingly, You are mindful of us, and You care for us (Psalm 8:4).

It can be daunting to navigate this vast universe with its mysteries, its shadows, its questions, and its unknowns. It is so easy to feel small, lost, confused, exposed...But You are the faithful guide who has promised, I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you (Psalm 32:7).

And when the troubles of this world threaten to overwhelm us, You remind us that You are with us—that You are our shelter, our hiding place. You have shown us in Your word Your supremacy over every force or element we may encounter:

With Your mighty arm You redeemed Your people…The waters saw You, God, the waters saw You and writhed (Psalm 77:15-16).

Therefore let all the faithful pray to You while You may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them (Psalm 32:6).

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze (Isaiah 43:2).

[Jesus] replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him!” (Matthew 8:26-27).

O Father, You are God, You are sovereign, You are supreme. Give us faith and trust. Fill our minds with songs of deliverance. Teach us the heart attitude of the psalmist:

But let all who take refuge in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You (Psalm 5:11).
