Daily Affirmations - Day 2 - Show Me Now Your Way: I Have Put My Trust in You

Day 2: I have put my trust in You

Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life (Psalm 143:8).

Sovereign Almighty God, You are The Mighty One, God, the Lord, [who] speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets (Psalm 50:1). You carry through Your plans, calling forth the generations from the beginning, declaring of Yourself, I, the Lord—with the first of them and with the last—I am He” (Isaiah 41:3).

As we stand at the dawn of a New Year, we have the assurance that You hold the future—You are the future—the God who is, who was, and who is to come (Revelation 1:4). You are the God who created time and space, and You cannot be confined by either.

You have not hidden from us the hard realities of this world, but You have given us a Savior who gives us the ultimate assurance: "Take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

In this ever-changing life, nothing is certain—nothing is within our grasp. We thank You for the systems and structures that support us, but You have told us they are transient. More and more we see how quickly they can slip away—how suddenly they can disappear. Help us to hold them loosely and with gratitude, so they do not become idols of our hearts, and centers of our world.

In You alone, Lord, do we place our trust. Our times are in Your hands. No idols or false gods can insulate us against the unseen, the unknown, and the unexpected. No idols or false gods can tell what is going to happen. No idols or false gods can tell us what the former things were so that we may consider them and know their final outcome; no one but You can declare to us the things to come, [or] tell us what the future holds (Isaiah 41:22-23).

And even when the way is uncertain, and the path is dark, we can say with confidence like the psalmist, As for God, His way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him (Psalm 18:30). We understand, like the first disciples of Jesus, that we have no other refuge. In our heart of hearts we can say as they did, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” (John 6:68).

Father, we need Your Presence every passing hour. As we face a new year, we express our total dependence on You in the words of David: "Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life" (Psalm 143:8).
