Day 2: Our source and our supply
He supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills. He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call (Psalm 147:8-9).
Our Father, in heaven, You are the Lord, the everlasting Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth (Isaiah 40:28). From You comes life, and all that sustains it—the intricate and marvelous details and wonders of nature from which flow survival, and continuance, restoration and replenishment.
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals (Psalm 36:6). You tip over the water jars of the heavens when the dust becomes hard and the clods of earth stick together… [You] provide food for the raven when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food (Job 38:37-38, 41).
Father, You are our source and our supply. In the familiar comfort of Your provision, keep our hearts from ingratitude, complacency, and callous entitlement. Preserve in us the wonder and gratitude that prompted the psalmist to pray, How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all (Psalm 104:24).
Fill our hearts with new wonder at the rain and at the grass on the hills, and at all Your systems of supply that sustain us. For with You is the fountain of life (Psalm 36:9).
