Day 2: Day after day
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world (Psalm 19:1-4).
O Mighty One, God, the Lord, You speak and summon the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets (Psalm 50:1).
All of creation shouts Your praise—The whole earth is filled with awe at Your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, You call forth songs of joy (Psalm 65:8). You laid the earth's foundations...laid its cornerstone—while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy (Job 38:4, 6-7).
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of Your mouth (Psalm 33:6). You invite us to contemplate Your power, Your glory, Your might and Your majesty displayed in the splendor of Your creation:
Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, not one of them is missing (Isaiah 40:26).
In the heavens You have pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth (Psalm 19:5-6).
Yet even in the dazzling light of created rays, we see only a glimpse of the Lord [who] wraps Himself in light as with a garment (Psalm 104:2). The stars and galaxies, the sun moon and stars in their course above*—these are but the outer fringes of Your works... (Job 26:14).
And day after day as they pour forth speech, night after night as they reveal knowledge, (Psalm 19:2), [Your] invisible qualities—[Your] eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse (Romans 1:20).
O Lord Almighty, God of creation, we can only fall to our knees and echo the words of the psalmist, Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness…The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic… And in His temple all cry, “Glory!” (Psalm 29:1-2, 4, 9).
