Daily Affirmations - Day 3 - Foundations: The Rock Eternal

Day 3: The Rock eternal

We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts... Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord Himself, is the Rock eternal (Isaiah 26:1, 4).

Lord our God, the psalmist David found rest and reassurance in the reminder of who You are: Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken (Psalm 62:2, 6).

David attributed that level of trust to his relationship with You—his intimate knowledge of Your irreproachable name and character, and his firsthand experience of Your faithfulness and deliverance: Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You (Psalm 9:10).

O Lord, teach us to know You like that! We confess that we would rather altogether avoid "the flood of mortal ills prevailing."* But David, Luther and others who have known You through the ages understood that it is in the midst of the trials, the dangers, the troubles and the uncertainties of this life that You prove Your trustworthiness, You display Your power, and You bring Your deliverance.

God who has set eternity in the human heart (Ecclesiastes 3:11), somehow, amazingly, You desire relationship with us—mere humans—and You stir in us a desire to seek You. Help us to respond like David, My heart says of You, “Seek His face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek (Psalm 27:8).

Let our hearts know You, our ears hear You, and our eyes see You, so that when the armies of trouble, uncertainty, anxiety, and fear surround us, we would know with certainty that “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (2 Kings 6:16).

Your word tells us, Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore (Psalm 125:1-2).

We are Your people. We are Your city—a strong city. For You, O, Father, have made our Lord Jesus Christ, our walls and our ramparts. He is our Salvation. He is our Rock. He is our Foundation. He, the Lord Himself, is with us forever.

Bless Your name, Lord, thank You!
