Daily Affirmations - Day 3 - Fountains and Streams: Life, Health, and Healing

Day 3: Life, health, and healing

The mouth of a righteous person is a fountain of life, but the mouths of wicked people conceal violence (Proverbs 10:11 - NOG).

Our Father, God of all creation, You spoke life and breath, being and existence into all that was, all that is, all that will ever be. In the beginning... God said... and it was... and there was... (Genesis 1).

You created humans in Your own image (Genesis 1:27, 9:6) and gave us the gift of speech (Exodus 4:11). You designed and equipped us for communication and interaction, community and interdependence. It was Your intention for us to speak life—not in the sense of creation, for You alone are God, You alone can call things that are not as though they were (Romans 4:17), You alone can call life from nothingness.

But we have been given a potency in speech that can be used for life, health, and healing; or for corruption, death, and destruction (Proverbs 12:18, 15:4, 16:24,18,21). The difference is our choice of source— the fountains and springs of Your righteousness, or the "muddied streams" of our human inclinations towards evil, perverseness, and wickedness.

Teach us, Lord to speak from the fountains of Your grace, forgiveness, kindness, and compassion. Give us the mouth of the righteous. Keep us from being drawn into wickedness, evil, strife, and violence of any kind. Help us to be intentional in choosing life, health, and healing in all we say.

O Father, may someone be blessed and encouraged by my words today.

Each day I’ll do a golden deed,

By helping those who are in need;

My life on earth is but a span,

And so I’ll do the best I can.

Refrain:

Life’s evening sun is sinking low,

A few more days, and I must go

To meet the deeds that I have done,

Where there will be no setting sun.

To be a child of God each day,

My light must shine along the way;

I’ll sing His praise while ages roll,

And strive to help some troubled soul.

The only life that will endure,

Is one that’s kind and good and pure;

And so for God I’ll take my stand,

Each day I’ll lend a helping hand.

I’ll help someone in time of need,

And journey on with rapid speed;

I’ll help the sick and poor and weak,

And words of kindness to them speak.

While going down life’s weary road,

I’ll try to lift some trav’ler’s load;

I’ll try to turn the night to day,

Make flowers bloom along the way.
