Day 3: Unchanging, unfailing and sure
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 - NKJV).
You, O Lord are the great God, the great King above all gods. In Your hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to You. The sea is Yours, for You made it, and Your hands formed the dry land (Psalm 95:3-5).
We come today and kneel before You in humble gratitude, bowing down in worship, as we contemplate the reassuring truth that You are our God, You are our Maker, and we are the flock under Your care (Psalm 95:6-7).
Open our eyes to see You— Your might, Your majesty, and Your tender loving compassion. Teach us to know the infinite power and the boundless reach of the One who commanded Joshua, Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 - NKJV).
God of endless ages, the New Testament writers remind us that the foundational truths of Your principles and promises never change. They reiterate Your assurances, to remind us that as much as for Joshua and the nation he led all those centuries ago, Your protective Presence is promised to us:
“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5-6).
Lord, we anchor our soul in Your promises, trusting in You whatever the future many bring.
I’ve anchored my soul in God’s promise,
Unchanging, unfailing and sure;
Life’s tempests may rage all around me,
But He will preserve me secure.
Refrain:
I’ve anchored my soul in His promise,
He’ll keep through the threatening gale;
I’ve anchored my soul in His promise,
His promise that never can fail.
I’ve anchored my soul in His promise,
I need but to trust and obey
To ever abide in His keeping,
And safely to rest all the day.
Why should I be fearful since Jesus
Has offered the help that I need?
He tells me that nothing shall harm me—
Believing, from care I am freed.
While counting Him faithful, my spirit
In calm, sweet assurance shall sing;
I’ll trust unafraid in my Savior,
Whatever the future may bring.
