Day 3: Through trials
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything (James 1:2-4).
"Oh, give our frightened souls the sure salvation for which, O Lord, You taught us to prepare. And when this cup You give is filled to brimming with bitter suffering, hard to understand, we take it thankfully and without trembling, out of so good and so beloved a hand.
Yet when again in this same world You give us the joy we had, the brightness of Your Sun, we shall remember all the days we lived through, and our whole life shall then be Yours alone."
~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
"Disciples will not be weakened by suffering, worn down, and embittered until they are broken. Instead, they bear suffering, by the power of Him who supports them. The disciples bear the suffering laid on them only by the power of Him who bears all suffering on the cross. As bearers of suffering, they stand in communion with the Crucified."
~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
"What is happiness and unhappiness? It depends so little on the circumstances; it depends really only on what happens inside a person. I am grateful for every day and that makes me happy."
~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
