Day 4: Overshaded by love
“In a desert land He found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; He guarded him as the apple of His eye, like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them aloft” (Deuteronomy 32:10-11).
Oh Father, what a beautiful picture of Your tender, watchful care over Your children! Although these words were spoken about Your people, Israel, they reflect the heart of the same Father who today, cares for His own.
Lord, You alone lead us (vs.12). You hold our hand and guide us through this barren and howling waste—more than that—You carry us. You hover over us and spread Your wings to catch us and carry us aloft.
Thank You for shielding us, for caring for us every stage of the journey, day by day, moment by moment. Thank You that "the eternal God is [our] refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms" (Deuteronomy 33:27). Thank You for the blessed peace and comfort of knowing that we are safe in You—overshaded by Your love.
Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe on His gentle breast;
There by His love o’ershaded,
Sweetly my soul shall rest.
Hark! ’tis the voice of angels
Borne in a song to me,
Over the fields of glory,
Over the jasper sea.
Refrain:
Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe on His gentle breast;
There by His love o’ershaded,
Sweetly my soul shall rest.
Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe from corroding care,
Safe from the world’s temptations;
Sin cannot harm me there.
Free from the blight of sorrow,
Free from my doubts and fears;
Only a few more trials,
Only a few more tears!
Jesus, my heart’s dear Refuge,
Jesus has died for me;
Firm on the Rock of Ages
Ever my trust shall be.
Here let me wait with patience,
Wait till the night is o’er;
Wait till I see the morning
Break on the golden shore.
