Daily Affirmations - Day 5 - In Focus: Gradual Clearing

Day 5: Gradual clearing

Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?” He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.” Once more Jesus put His hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly (Mark 8: 23-25).

O Lord Jesus, You are "the Alpha and Omega who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8). From everlasting to everlasting You are God and You established Your purpose, and declared Your plan.

You came to a world lost and stumbling in darkness, and You declared Yourself to be the light of the world (John 3:19, 8:12, 9:5). You made Your dwelling among mortals and revealed Your light and Your glory. You demonstrated Your supreme power and Your ways past finding out. You showed Yourself to be a God who cannot be boxed in, anticipated, limited.

You spoke Your word many times and instantly restored the sight of the blind. But as You healed a blind man brought by friends, You created salve and applied it with Your own hands, and You gave him the gift of sight through multiple touches, gradually bringing things in focus.

So too, in our lives, Lord, You work in various ways according to Your wisdom. You pour into our lives many gifts of grace that we are able to realize instantly. Others You grant through Your carefully calibrated measures of mercy.

Give us the faith and the patience to wait for Your completed work. When our vision is blurred and the clearing is oh so gradual, and the figures before us look like trees walking around, help us to yield ourselves to Your hands, Your touch, Your power.

Help us to trust that You will provide complete clarity and vision—that in Your own time, in Your own way, You will cause us to see everything clearly (Mark 8:25).
