Day 5: Holy Spirit Wisdom

It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us... (Acts 15:28).

God of promise, God who is faithful and true, we have beheld Your glory in the face of Jesus, the One who is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6 – NKJV).

He came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 5:17)—the covenant redemption plan for a lost and fallen world. And after He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven (Hebrews 1:3).

He promised His followers, …"I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also" (John 14:2-3 - NKJV). And in the meantime, He gave His assurance, "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you (John 14:18)... The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you" (John 14:26).

Sovereign Lord, You knew that for Your followers—from the disciples gathered around You, to "those [of us] who [would] believe in You through their message" (John 17:20)—the world would be full of decisions and dilemmas, puzzles and perplexities. And You provided us a Counselor, an Advocate, the Spirit of truth (John 16:6, 13) to teach [us] all things (John 14:26).

O Lord, like the disciples, we face conflict and consternation, discord and division at every turn. Like them, we face decisions that may have implications far beyond our vision, our sphere, our time-span.

Teach us to bring our questions, our quandaries, our difficulties, our debates, and our confusions to You—seeking "Holy Spirit wisdom". Enable us to keep in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25), so we can base our decisions on what seems good to the Holy Spirit and to us (Acts 15:28).

Lord Jesus You have told us: Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away (Mark 13:31). You have given us Your Spirit to remind us of everything You have taught us (John 14:26).

Help us to hold fast to Your eternal words of truth so that we may navigate the challenges and complexities of service, interaction, community, ministry, and relationships with boldness, confidence, humility, sensitivity, love, and grace. So that Your kingdom will come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
