Day 6: Your God will come
Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come…” (Isaiah 35:3-4).
Almighty God, our Father, You are all-present, all-seeing, all-knowing: From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from His dwelling place He watches all who live on earth—He who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do (Psalm 33:13-15).
You perceive [our] thoughts from afar—before a word is on [our] tongue, You... know it completely (Psalm 139:2, 4). You see every worry, every fear, and every anxious thought (Psalm 139:23).
God of perfect love, You created a world without fear, for there is no fear in love (1 John 4:18). But sin left us naked, exposed, and afraid (Genesis 3:10-11). And since then, fear has haunted, and snared, and targeted, and stalked, and threatened to destroy our days and our nights with terrors and arrows and pestilence and plague (Psalm 91:3,5).
But You are our refuge and our fortress, the One who gives us rest in the secret place of Your shelter and Your shadow (Psalm 91:1-2). In every circumstance of fear—famine, danger, or sword— past, present, or future, You are God, and You are our protector, our rescuer, our deliverer (Psalm 91:14-15).
Lord, in these times of turmoil and uncertainty, when the earth constantly gives way, when the mountains quake—when they fall into the heart of the sea, and the waters surge and roar and foam—You are our refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1-3). In all that we face, in all that is, and all that is to come in our lives and in our world, we hold fast to the words You speak—words of spirit and life.
Help us to speak them often to ourselves and to others who need strength and encouragement. Strengthen our feeble hands as we lift them to You, steady our weak knees as we bow them before You. Let fearful, anxious hearts find calm and peace in the timeless message of courage, endurance, and hope, Be strong, do not fear; your God will come (Isaiah 35:4).
