Daily Affirmations - Day 7 - A Seal and A Promise: Generational Wealth

Day 7: Generational Wealth

The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call” (Acts 2:39).

Heavenly Father, You are the God from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name (Ephesians 3:15). From You, we have received the gift of family, in the natural, and in the spiritual.

From the first family, and through all generations, we have all experienced the impact of sin and brokenness in our families—yet in all the struggles and challenges, You have placed in us the emotions and the ties that bind us together in love and unity.

From You we have received the instincts, patterns, and capacity to love, to defend, to protect, and to care for each other, and You have equipped us with special sensibilities towards our young and vulnerable.

As You gave Your laws, Your guidance, and Your wisdom to Your ancient people for designing a healthy, functioning society, family was the core that expanded into all other structures. And throughout Scripture, we see Your love and concern for family—Your attention to all that pertains to its welfare in ways natural, practical, and spiritual.

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children (Proverbs 13:22 - NKJV)—is one of the practical principles we learn from the wisdom of Your word. We understand this so well, and as far as possible, we seek to create generational wealth, and to influence the financial welfare of our children's children.

And yet, Lord, this could too easily become our primary focus, at the expense of our care and concern for our spiritual legacy. We are often in danger of neglecting the more important matters (Matthew 23:23).

Lord, even as we work in practical ways to provide for our families, and to "secure their future," help us to recognize our far greater stewardship over their spiritual welfare. Help us to pray, and to guide, and to influence, and to nurture our families in the love and the grace of God, entrusting them to You—taking heart in the instruction and assurance You gave through the apostle Peter:

“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call” (Acts 2:38-39).
