Day 7: Partners in pleading
Then Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon (Daniel 2:17-18).
Our Father, God of heaven, the prophet Daniel prayed, “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His…He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him (Daniel 2:19-22).
Like Daniel, we are confronted with so many circumstances that are perplexing, confusing, overwhelming or frightening. And like Daniel, we know that You alone can give the wisdom, the discernment, and the knowledge we need for every circumstance.
We have Your reassurance that You give wisdom generously to those who ask (James 1:5). You have invited us to come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16 - KJV). And we do not have to come alone.
In the account of Daniel and his friends, we see Your special grace dispensed in answer to unified prayer (Daniel 2:17-19). We see this same grace as a result of the church earnestly praying to God for Peter (Acts 12:5), and we see it again after Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God (Acts 16:25).
Lord, we too, face many difficulties that threaten to engulf us, both in the spiritual and the natural. When our own strength is not enough, You multiply power as we come to You in one accord.
We have the explicit promise of the Lord Jesus, “Truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in My name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:19-20).
Help us to constantly come together as partners in pleading—trusting the promise of the Lord Jesus for His presence in united prayer. Thank You that we can, in holy agreement, ask for Your light, Your knowledge, Your wisdom, Your discernment, and Your deliverance.
