Day 7: Better returns
The law from Your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold (Psalm 119:72).
Our Father, long ago, by Your servant Moses You told the nation You had called, Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess (Deuteronomy 5:33).
You taught Moses—who taught Your people—that well-being and protection, and life itself, both in this world and in eternity, are bound to Your laws, Your commands, and Your instructions, because You alone are God. You ordain, You create, and You sustain. You teach us the value of the law from Your mouth and the wisdom it gives:
Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor (Proverbs 3:13-16).
Father, You gave Your people Your treasures of wisdom, because they are Your treasure. You reminded them through Moses, For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His people, His treasured possession (Deuteronomy 7:6, 14:2).
You explained the esteem, the value, the wisdom, the understanding, the protection and the nearness to God Your laws and instructions brought to them:
Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him? And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? (Deuteronomy 4:6-8).
And because You are an unchanging God, You reaffirm Your esteem to Your people today: But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).
Father, help us to walk confidently through all You have called us to—rooted in Your love, secure in our value as Your special and treasured possession. May our quest for treasure lead us only to You and the blessings of Your wisdom. Thank You for Your promise, But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33).
