"For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land’” (1 Kings 17:14).
Father of the heavenly lights, You do not change like shifting shadows (James 1:17). Your law is perfect, Your statutes are trustworthy, Your precepts are right, your decrees are firm (Psalm 19:7-9). You are the God who carries out the words of His servants and fulfills the predictions of His messengers (Isaiah 44:26).
Lord, You call us to priorities that are so different from the world around us—open our ears to listen, our hearts to obey. Even as You call us to sacrifice, give us unwavering faith, unfaltering obedience. Remind us that You are our source, our provider—You know our every need.
Give us the trust, the willing heart of this widow, who surrendered her last meal in faithful obedience to a plan she did not fully know or understand. Give us the courage to lay down our "last" before You. Give us ears of faith to hear Your reassurance, “Don’t be afraid...for this is what the Lord God says..."
Thank You that You are with us through our dry and barren seasons. Protect and shelter us through the parched and weary deserts—our physical challenges, mental anguish, emotional turmoil, strained relationships, unfulfilled longings, financial struggles. Teach our souls to pant for You (Psalm 42:1). Make our Valley of Baka a place of springs; send the autumn rains to cover it with pools (Psalm 84:6).
Thank You that You will send Your rain. Help us to hold on through the drought knowing that our supply will not be used up; knowing that You will replenish, and multiply, and in the process use us to minister to the needs of others.
What a mighty, awesome God You are! Nothing is too hard for You (Jeremiah 32:17).
