"But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows Me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it" (Numbers 14:24).
Our Father, we pray in the words of the psalmist, David, "Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees" (Psalm 119:5)! How often we miss out on the good things You plan for us, because of our wavering and our unbelief!
Change our hearts, O Lord. Help us to have "a different spirit" like Your servant Caleb, who forged on in faith even as others around him faltered in fear. The other scouts looked through their own lenses and the lenses of the opponent, and saw only their limitations, “We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them” (Numbers 13:33). Caleb, however, looked through the lens of faith, and saw only Your might, Your power, Your promise, Your faithfulness (Numbers 13:1-14:44).
O Lord, help us to follow the example of Caleb, and of Abraham before him, who did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised (Romans 4:20-21).
Fill our eyes with Your light, our minds with Your vision, our spirits with Your truth. Stir in us the commitment, the steadfast faith and the wholehearted obedience to believe Your promises and trust Your word.
Give us new perspective. Help us to trust You—to "be strong and courageous" (Joshua 1:6, 7, 9) as You have directed us. Purify our hearts, so that fear, unbelief, discontent, and grumbling will not take root. May You never have to say of us, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known My ways.’ So I declared on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest’” (Psalm 95:10-11).
Help us, Lord, by faith, to step forward into the territory You have assigned us knowing that Your own hands have marked out the boundary lines (Psalm 16:6). Help us not to forfeit Your blessings or miss the opportunities You have designed for us.
Father, You have promised that "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You" (Isaiah 26: 3). Keep us steadfast. Keep us "stayed on You". Keep us anchored. "...May [our] hearts be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by His decrees and obey His commands..." (1 Kings 8:61).
