“For I am already being poured out like a drink offering” (2 Timothy 4:6).
Our Father in heaven, You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth (Isaiah 37:16). Hallowed be Your name!
As we pray for Your kingdom to come, and for Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, (Matthew 6:9-10), help us to understand what that means in, and for our lives. Help us to be willing to be poured out as an offering.
We confess to You, Oh God that we love the world far too much. Forgive us for our distractions, and our preoccupation with fleeting and temporal things. Give us new eyes to see past the "sights that dazzle" and new ears that shut out the "tempting sounds" around us. Give us new hearts to embrace You fully and new minds to reject the counterfeit offerings of this world. Help us to "live out [our] time as foreigners here in reverent fear" (1 Peter 1:17).
Thank You for the unshakable truth that "the Lord is trustworthy in all He promises and faithful in all He does" (Psalm 145:13). Thank You that even though "the world and its desires pass away..., whoever does the will of God lives forever" (1 John 2:17). Thank You that Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures through all generations" (Psalm 145:13).
You have called us, Father, to invest all we have in Your kingdom. Our Lord Jesus told us that “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). Help us not to look back. Help us to press on.
Help us to "fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:18).Fill us Lord, with Your Spirit, so we can be poured out to a world in need. Help us to be willing to "deny [ourselves] and take up [our] cross daily and follow [Jesus]" (Luke 9:23).
