Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it. (Deuteronomy 30:11-14).
Our Father in heaven, Your word...is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens (Psalm 119:89). You have revealed Yourself in Your word, giving it to humans, and ensuring its careful and meticulous preservation through centuries.
Father, so many doubt without taking the time to explore with openness and honest research how Your word was handed down, how it was documented and safe-guarded through centuries, and how it is able to withstand the most rigorous standards of scrutiny applied in scholarship.
We pray O Lord, for receptive hearts and willing spirits. Thank You that in giving us everything we need for a godly life... (2 Peter 1:3), You have ensured that Your word is within our reach—very near us, in our mouth and in our heart.
How can we even begin to understand, let alone describe the power of Your word? You create, You sustain, You uncover, You heal, You deliver by Your word (Psalm 33:6, Hebrews 1:3, Hebrews 4:12, Psalm 107:20).
Thank You that by Your word, You wash us (Ephesians 5:25-26), You fill us with Your life-giving Spirit (John 6:63), You keep us from sin (Psalm 119:11), You light our way (Psalm 119:105), and You defend us (Ephesians 6:17). And thank You, that most amazing of all, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14).
Thank You Lord for Your spoken, written, and Living Word!
