The Lord turned to [Gideon] and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” (Judges 6:14-15)
O Lord, You are the One who "calls those things which are not, as though they were." (Romans 4:17). Your word gives us such great encouragement! Thank You for showing us unvarnished accounts of flawed, imperfect humans like us who were dramatically changed by Your power at work in them.
You called Gideon "Mighty Warrior" even as in terror of the enemy he farmed in a hideout. And You did transform him into a mighty warrior! You accomplished Your purpose through him in spite of his persistent doubt and fear. (Judges 6-Judges 7)
Amazing God, even when we don't see our potential, You identify what we will become. Thank You for seeing us through Your transforming power, and for calling us "as though [we] were." Thank You for calling us Your own; Thank You for calling us loved, chosen and forgiven.
Lord, when I feel like Gideon, drowning in insecurity and self-doubt, recounting all the reasons "I don't got this", help me to "go in the strength" You provide. Let Your words of power, "Am I not sending you?" change me into what You would have me become. Remind me that You call me strong, courageous, mighty. Accomplish Your purpose through me.
