The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.” (Nehemiah 2:4-5)
Our God and Father in heaven, like Nehemiah we sometimes encounter situations in our professional or personal life that call for courage, wisdom, and honesty. It is so reassuring to know that when we do we can pray to the God of heaven.
Thank You that when we lack wisdom—when we know that a misstep can have serious consequences—we can ask for "the wisdom that comes from above," and You "give generously...without finding fault." (James1:5). Lord, we often see "successes" in the natural, but it is Your hand of favor that moves on our behalf. Thank you that in our difficult interactions, our personal dilemmas and our professional quandaries, Your ears are "attentive to our prayers" (Nehemiah 1:11).
Father, today, infuse me with Your wisdom, fill me with courage and integrity, surround me with Your favor like a shield (Psalm 5:12).
