Daily Affirmations - Just a Little Bit Longer - Day 2

Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Why, Lord, why have You brought trouble on this people? Is this why You sent me? Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and You have not rescued Your people at all.” (Exodus 5:22-23).

Our Father, our God, our deliverer, how wise and mighty You are! And how afraid and impatient we are! How often You have told us, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord... (Exodus 14:13 -NKJV). How often You have told us, "The battle is the Lord’s" (1 Samuel 17:47), and yet we don't understand!

Lord, when we cry out for Your help and things seem to get worse—when circumstances seem even tougher—help us to trust that You have a perfect plan. You did, for Moses, and the people of Israel. To them it looked like trouble, to them it looked like "You had not rescued Your people at all" (Exodus 5:23).

But O Father, You see beyond all horizons of space and time. When Moses and the Israelites could only see the immediate pressures of bricks without straw (Exodus 5:10-21), You were laying the foundation for future deliverance—with their present suffering.

They did not yet know of a Jericho battle, but You knew of a Rahab who would say, "We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt... When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below" (Joshua 2:10-11). They did not know this would be her motivation for aiding their mission (Joshua 2:12-15)—but You did.

And even then, Lord, Your plan continued to unfold. Beyond the Jericho battle to the birth of a Messiah, who would count this same Rahab in His lineage—a doomed woman You delivered when she chose faith and belief, and tied a scarlet cord in her window (Joshua 2:12-21; Matthew 1:5).

O Lord, what a mighty God You are! How great You are—beyond our understanding! (Job 36:26). From Eden to Egypt, from Jericho to Bethlehem, from beginning to end, You work all things together in You plan for present and future deliverance and redemption.

We lift to You our cares and our struggles, our pressures and our strains. We lift to You our worsening circumstances—our bricks without straw. Give us the faith to hold on just a little bit longer.

Even when we can't see what You are doing, Lord, give us eyes of faith and hearts of trust. Teach us to surrender to You in grateful praise knowing You are a God with a perfect plan. A plan for now, and a plan for our future.
