Immediately [Jesus] spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Then He climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down (Mark 6:50-51).
Heavenly Father, You are God Almighty (Genesis 17:1). With what shall I come before the Lord and bow down before the exalted God (Micah 6:6)? You are the God who makes winds His messengers, flames of fire His servants (Psalm 104:4).
It is amazing that You, Almighty God over all are mindful of [us] (Psalm 8:4)! You are a God who fills up every space—You are both near, and afar off (Jeremiah 23:23-24). You do not hide in times of trouble (Psalm 10:1). You see when the wind is against [us], and when we are straining at the oars (Mark 6: 48).
Oh Lord, You come out to us in our sea of trouble, showing us Your conquering power and Your strength—walking effortlessly on the raging waters. And when our terrified hearts are hijacked by ghosts and apparitions and dark imaginings, You speak Your peace into our fear.
Who are we, Lord, that You would climb into the boat with us? Turn our eyes away from ghosts and monsters. Help us to grasp the reality of "It is I." Let it be enough to fill our hearts with enduring strength. Let it be enough to calm the winds of anxiety, still the currents of dread.
Help us, O God, to "Take Courage." Thank You for Your perfect, ever-present, unfailing love that casts out all fear.
