The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly (John 10:10 - NKJV)
Faithful God, Loving Shepherd, with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light (Psalm 36:9). You are the source of all life—of the Lord Jesus, the apostle John writes, "In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind" (John 1:4).
Our Lord Himself described His express intent to provide us, not just with life, but with overflowing and abundant life. What a contrast between the loving Savior of our souls and the thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy!
Thank You, Father, for the price Jesus paid for our abundant life. He gave His own life to purchase ours—He poured out His life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors (Isaiah 53:12).
Teach us to walk in the abundance You have given. Give us hearts of gratitude and contentment. Fill us with joy and purpose. Free us from self-absorption and let Your lavish love and mercy flow through us into the lives of others. Use us to fill the world with Your light and Your hope so that others may be delivered from the thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy.
Brightly beams our Father’s mercy, From His lighthouse evermore, But to us He gives the keeping Of the lights along the shore.
Refrain: Let the lower lights be burning! Send a gleam across the wave! Some poor struggling, fainting seaman You may rescue, you may save.
Dark the night of sin has settled, Loud the angry billows roar; Eager eyes are watching, longing, For the lights along the shore.
Trim your feeble lamp, my brother; Some poor sailor, tempest-tossed, Trying now to make the harbor, In the darkness may be lost.
