Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience (Colossians 3:12).
Heavenly Father, though we fall far short of Your glory; yet through Christ, You confer on us the special status of chosen, holy, and dearly loved. You make us righteous by Your grace, "not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:9). Yet, You call us to a holy life, "to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10).
In "the revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave Him to show to His servant," on the island of Patmos, (Revelation 1:1), John records that "fine linen, bright and clean, was given to [those redeemed by Jesus] to wear.” John clarifies that "(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people" Revelation 19:8.)
Your word instructs us, "clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 13:14). It was He who modeled for us the attributes that help us show genuine love and concern for others. Thank You Lord, for extending to us His righteousness.
Help us, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, to follow His example, and "clothe [ourselves] with "compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience" (Colossians 3:12). Let our lives be filled with "the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law" (Galatians 5:22-23).
Thank You for Your grace, Lord! Help us to "let [our] light shine before others, that they may see [our] good deeds and glorify [our] Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).
"Blessed are those You choose and bring near to live in Your courts! We are filled with the good things of Your house, of Your holy temple" (Psalm 65:4).
