Daily Affirmations - Streams of Mercy- Day 5

Streams of Mercy - Running over

"For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Luke 6:38).

Our Father, You are the source of goodness, the fountainhead of lovingkindness and mercy. We offer You words of prayer and praise from Scripture: I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which He is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us— ...according to His compassion and many kindnesses (Isaiah 63:7).

Your many kindnesses are displayed in all that concerns our lives—from the complex governance of all that exists—things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities (Colossians 1:16)—to the small details of our life, our living, and our human realities.

Everything that exists is subject to Your will, to Your supreme rule and reign. The winds and the waves obey You (Matthew 8:27), and humans become instruments of Your will.

Abraham's servant understood this when he prayed, “Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham Genesis 24:12). But even he could never have imagined the staggering answer when he prayed for You to show your kindness through a young woman. And the young woman, Rebekah, had no idea of Your unfolding plan:

The servant hurried to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water from your jar.” “Drink, my lord,” she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink. After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink" (Genesis 24:17-19).

O Father, like Rebekah, we may not know when we are the answer to someone's prayer. We may not understand how You weave our present into the intricate details of Your infinite timeline and Your everlasting love. We may not know when we are part of a plan that is bigger than our horizons, wider than our boundaries, weightier than our affairs, more enduring than our span.

We may not know when the waters from our jars of kindness would become streams of mercy in our own life, and flow into Your rivers of promise, and Your ocean depths of grace and love. Help us to simply be obedient channels of Your love and kindness.
