Daily Affirmations - Take Hold - Day 6

Take Hold of Confidence

So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Hebrews 13:6).

Heavenly Father, we worship You with the song of David, You are my strength, I sing praise to You; You, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely (Psalm 59:17).

Faithful Lord, each new day, You wake us up to Your great and unfailing love, Your renewed mercies, and Your renewed compassions—thank You! In every circumstance, we are grateful for Your benefits, Your blessings, and most of all for Your presence.

The writer of Hebrews quotes Moses and the Psalms to remind us that our confidence is rooted in God and in the assurance of His presence: God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you”. So we say with confidence... (Hebrews 13:5-6; Deuteronomy 31:6; Psalm 118:6-7).

David knew that You are the source of confidence when he told the Philistine giant, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied" (1 Samuel 17:45).

And King Hezekiah knew that You are the source of confidence when he told the nation of Israel, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said (2 Chronicles 32:7-8).

So today, help us to step boldly into whatever You plan, remembering that You are our source of confidence. Whether You call us to take that next small step, or a quantum leap of faith, help us to take hold of confidence. Even when we face swords, spears, or javelins. Even when we face taunts, sneers, or disparagements. Even when we face loud giants, great powers, or vast armies.

Lord, You are our source, our strength, our fortress. Whatever lies before us, remind us of Your assurance that You will never leave us, and give us the confidence of always knowing that there is a greater power with us.
