“Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying...Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink" (Genesis 21:17, 19).
Heavenly Father, we worship You for Your Sovereignty, we praise You for Your goodness, we thank You for Your help. We thank You that when our "tears [are our] food day and night" (Psalm 42:3), You meet us on the parched and weary road. Whether we cry out for ourselves, or for those we love, "Your ears are attentive to [our] cry" (Psalm 34:15).
O Lord, You hear our cries when we are physically depleted, emotionally exhausted, mentally drained, spiritually empty. We pray that when, like Hagar, we are at the end of our resources, retreating in defeat, we would hear Your voice saying, "Do not be afraid" (Genesis 21:17).
Lord, when we are deafened by the sounds of dread, open our ears to hear Your angel-call from heaven (Genesis 21:17). When we are blinded by the dark of fear, open our eyes to see Your wells of mercy and provision (Genesis 21:19).
Only You, O God, can turn a "dry and parched land where there is no water" (Psalm 63:1) into a sanctuary of praise where we behold Your power and Your glory (Psalm 63:2). Thank You that You are "making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland" (Isaiah 43:19). Sustain us by Your word. Strengthen us by Your power.
All-Sufficient Father, when our souls are troubled and the journey is too much, help us to persevere and "press on toward the goal" (Philippians 3:14). Help us to "show...diligence to the very end, so that what [we] hope for may be fully realized" (Hebrews 6:11). Help us to "endure to the end" (Mark 13:13).
