Daily Affirmations - The Long Road - Day 2

I praised the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road… (Genesis 24:48).

Abba, Father, Great are You, Lord, and most worthy of praise—this God is our God for ever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end (Psalm 48:1, 14). You guide the humble Lord, in what is right, and You teach them Your way (Psalm 25:9). In every decision, You are there when we cry out to You for Your wisdom, for Your direction.

We learn so much from these Scriptural accounts of how You act on behalf of those who seek Your counsel. We are amazed at how You guide and direct in every practical detail of life and in every important life-decision.

We see the example of Abraham's steward, sent on a long journey—commissioned to find a suitable wife for Abraham's son—praying to You, and seeking Your help. And we see how You answer that prayer in such a forthright and remarkable way before he had finished praying (Genesis 24:15).

Oh Lord, we too, need help with major life decisions for our families and for ourselves. Forgive us for not seeking You more! Help us to humbly ask, and to trust You for our outcomes, as Abraham did, confident that You will make [our] journey a success (Genesis 24:40).

We pray even now for the generations of our families. Please direct their course. We look to You, as did Abraham and his servant, for Your leading in the choice of a spouse. We lift to You all their other important choices—friends, companions, associates, activities. Lead them on the right road.

We lift up to you all the influences around them. We ask for your protection against subtle and overt pressures and evil enticements. Guard them from evil masquerading as harmless—evil masquerading as good. We entrust to You all things that concern their future, as only You know the long road ahead.

Help us, O God! We live in a time when the prevailing forces of evil are pervasive and strong. In all of the violence and chaos, we can easily think of the world described in Genesis where the inclinations of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time (Genesis 6:5).

In this battle for the very souls of our young, and those around us, we know that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12). We don't stand a chance on our own.

We can look only to Jesus, who is far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come (Ephesians 1:21). Give us the fortitude to pray, the humility to listen, the wisdom to guide. Lord, save us! Lord, grant us success (Psalm 118:25)!
