For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay (Habakkuk 2:3)
Our Father in heaven, You alone are Sovereign and wise. You reveal all things at the appointed time.
Often, like the prophet Habakkuk, we cry out to You in prayer, and we stand watching, looking "to see what [You] will say" (Habakkuk 2:1).
Father, we confess to You that our faith is often small, and our struggle with doubt often causes us to say like the father seeking help for his child, "I believe, help my unbelief" (Mark 9:24). Lord, help us! Help us to trust You when we do not understand.
Lord, thank You for the many ways You answer prayer, working "all things out for the good of those who love You (Romans 8:28). We thank You for the Spirit who "helps us in our weakness" and "intercedes for us with wordless groans" when "we do not know what we ought to pray for" (Romans 8:26). Many times we have prayed for serpents, thinking we are asking for fish, we have prayed for stones, thinking they were bread (Matthew 7:9-10). O thank You for Your saving wisdom.
For the times, when, like Habakkuk we have to wait for the "appointed time", give us patience, focus, and trust. Build in us perseverance, character, and hope (Romans 5:4). Help us to "wait patiently for the Lord" (Psalm 40:1). Speak Your peace into our troubled and anxious hearts. Help us to "be still before [You] and wait patiently for [You]" (Psalm 37:7). When our sight is dim, O Lord, give us eyes of faith to see You clearly, hearts of acceptance and surrender to say "not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
"In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly" (Psalm 5:3). Help me to "remain confident [that] I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living" (Psalm 27:13). Help me to wait for You.
