I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should stay in darkness (John 12:46).
Our Father, majestic God who wraps Himself in light as with a garment (Psalm 104:2), we praise You for Your greatness, we praise You for Your love, we praise You for Your perfect salvation plan—Your plan to reconcile lost humanity to Yourself. The apostle John said of Jesus: The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14).
Thank You for the meaning of this blessed Christmas season—that we can remember and celebrate Your gift of love. Thank You for making Your dwelling among us in the person of the Lord Jesus. Thank You for Your grace and truth. Thank You for the light that Jesus brings—that He came into the world as a light. Thank You that because He came, we do not have to stay in darkness. Thank You for the hope that gives us.
Father, more and more, the world is so desperate for light. We live in times when darkness seems so pervasive, so pressing, so present. Many are fearful, many are hopeless. Under the gloss, and the tinsel and the ribbons, many are weary and empty. Send out Your light and Your truth; let them guide [us]. Let them lead [us] to Your holy mountain, to the place where You live (Psalm 43:3 NKJV).
Jesus said that no one who believes in Him has to stay in darkness. O Lord, strip away the dark of doubt and unbelief and rebellion. Open blind eyes. Your word says that "The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble" (Proverbs 4:18-19).
Help us not to stumble in wickedness, but to walk in the righteousness of the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for us. (Ephesians 5:2 MEV). Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift (2 Corinthians 9:15)!
